Kybella Q & A
What is Kybella?
Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for double chins, medically known as submental fullness. The Dermatology Arts experts perform Kybella treatment on-site in their South Pasadena and Arcadia offices, giving you a great alternative to invasive surgical procedures.
How does Kybella work?
The main ingredient in Kybella, synthetic deoxycholic acid, works by destroying fat cells. Kybella injections go into the fat under your chin, placing the synthetic deoxycholic acid in the exact area needed to effectively target the fat in the double chin.
The cellular remnants and the remainder of the synthetic deoxycholic acid then break down further. Your lymphatic and circulatory systems then flush these remnants out of your body over the weeks ahead.
What can I expect during Kybella treatment?
During Kybella treatment, the Dermatology Arts team uses extremely slim needles to inject the synthetic deoxycholic acid into the fat under your chin. You may need up to 50 individual injections in the under-the-chin area in total.
The injections usually aren’t painful thanks to the small-gauge needles. You may receive a local anesthetic to further improve your comfort during the treatment. The whole Kybella treatment takes only around 15-20 minutes in most cases.
How many Kybella treatment sessions do I need?
Many people notice a change after their second Kybella treatment. In total, many people need 2-4 treatment sessions, while others may need up to six treatments for optimal results.
Your Kybella treatments are at least four weeks apart, which gives you time to assess results and determine whether you'll need additional treatment sessions.
How long do Kybella results last?
While some other methods of fat reduction merely shrink the fat cells, Kybella treatment actually destroys them. Following Kybella treatment, you can't store fat in that area any longer, so it's a permanent fat reduction.
While the treated fat cells will never regenerate, the other fat cells in the nearby areas could potentially expand if you gain weight, and this could make your chin and neck look larger. So, as long as you maintain a healthy weight, you need not worry about your double chin growing back.
Kybella can help you eliminate your double chin for good. To learn more about how it works, call Dermatology Arts or click on the provided appointment scheduling link now.
